How can I help you?

Who am I?

I was a naturally slender runner in high school and college.

After age 25, I fought with my metabolism about every 5 years.

At 30 I lost 30 pounds using nutrition alone, added exercise and gained back 5 pounds but lost 2 pants sizes.

I became an endurance athlete and would experience normal ebbs and flows with my weight and body composition.

Then came perimenopause...

I had no idea what was going on. I felt like my metabolism shifted firmly into park my body composition turned to mush. I was eating at a caloric deficit and I was training for a half ironman AND and ultramarathon simultaneously.

I had been working on my health and fitness for nearly 30 years and I thought

  • I knew "what to do"
  • I just needed to "buckle down"
  • I lacked discipline
  • I needed more motivation
  • I wasn't eating clean enough

The month I had my 3rd period and called my functional medicine doctor to run bloodwork was my first realization that I was in perimenopause.

I truly had no idea. We were still in the throws of the pandemic. I had lost my heart and soul dog suddenly. I thought I just had the "blahs". I certainly didn't want to admit I was depressed.

And it kept getting better...

As someone who rarely experienced period symptoms, I was floored when I got hit with them ALL

  • cramps
  • mood swings
  • back pain
  • breast tenderness
  • diahrrea

I felt like I had no room to complain because I had been symptom free for 20ish years.

My training was no longer working. I missed the time cutoff for my first 50K and had to drop out at 25K.

My sleep. My beloved sleep abandoned me. I was having trouble falling asleep. I was having trouble staying asleep. I was exhausted!

I was feeling utterly defeated, bereft of joy and completely alone.

What Changed

I was struggling to get through the loss of my heart and soul dog and I stumbled on another spunky heeler with a HUGE personality just like Trixie.

She became my life raft.

I made friends with her mom and then I saw the light. She was SO full of light. She reminded me of how I used to be, how I wished I was again.

So I thought, why NOT me?

So I leaned in to a new community and I started trying things differently and before I knew it I was getting different results.

3 years of eating clean and training 20-30 hours a week didn't budge the bulge but 9 months of doing things differently and as my massage therapist tells me, I'm melting away.

It's simple but it's not easy.

I haven't given up my favorite foods and I haven't given up wine but I'm making strategic choices with my nutrition daily.

I've traded 2+ hour workouts 6-7 days a week for 30-45 minute workouts 5 days a week.

No Woman Left Behind

Maybe because I was that girl in school. The unpopular one, the one that wondered "Why don't they like me?" that I started to pay attention. I didn't realize it, but I learned to really listen, and to see and hear more with my heart than with my eyes and ears.

The way I wished they had seen and heard me way back then.

By and large, I'll look at a woman and see she is doubting herself, hurting herself, and utterly blind to the amazing person she is.
It comes naturally to me to share a glimpse of the light I see.
I never want to leave someone wishing they were seen, wishing they were heard.
More than that, I always want them to walk away feeling loved, appreciated and very, very special.
Because we all are!

YOU are!
You deserve to show up as your most audacious, authentic self every day, with no apologies to anyone and LOVE it!

10 Random Facts about me

  1. I love sexy sci-fi/supernatural TV and movies. I'm completely addicted to the Lost Girl series, a recovering Joss Wheedon addict and can't stop myself from watching any of the Underworld movies over and over and over again.
  2. For some reason, I'll watch a favorite movie from the middle on cable instead of putting the perfectly good DVD on my shelf into the player to the consternation of my husband.
  3. I apologize in advance for relating a story I hear about someone's children to something that happened with my dog. We don't have kids, and my dogs are adored and slathered with attention, toys and fun activities including obedience, tricks and agility.
  4. I am completely obsessed with shoes, typically platform stiletto heels. I don't know how many I own, but the answer when asked is always, and will always be "not enough".
  5. I think I am hilarious. My most famous family quote is "just because you don't get it, doesn't mean it's not funny". I laugh at least a dozen times in any given day. Sometimes so hard I can't breathe.
  6. I love to cook for others, and am recognized as being pretty darned good at it. I used to have a catering business. Now I only do it for fun and family. If you're invited to my house and I'm serving food, expect a LOT.
  7. I am an endurance athlete and the only thing I love more than achieving a personal best is completing a new challenge. I've run 2 marathons, 4 half marathons (1 in under 2 hours), several Olympic distance and 3 half iron man distance triathlon, many obstacle races including Rugged Maniac and the Super Spartan, a marathon distance trail race, and in 2023, I added ultramarathoner to that list as well.
  8. I love to travel. I've been to Scotland, Ireland, England, Spain, Brazil, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Belize and all over the Caribbean. I love flying and being married to a pilot, the free flight benefits are spectacular! I can't wait until we own our own private airplane! I dream of being able to travel the world and do super fun stuff like scuba, golf and ski on multiple continents.
  9. I am a beer snob. I don't drink any "yellow beer" or ales and lagers, my favorites are porters and stouts. So far, I've made 2 batchs of home brew Stout and I look forward to brewing more cool beers.
  10. My husband is my best friend in the world, and I am completely addicted to him. I am incredibly lucky and tell him most every day. I have absolutely no tolerance for male bashing or general trash talking of the opposite gender, though I am certainly sympathetic to those who don't have such a super fantastic spouse.

Taking a moment to share a little triumph, because celebrating progress is my new happy place! I've stopped beating myself up and started just enjoying life and making little, meaningful changes. I'll hit my goals when I do, but I'm going to enjoy the journey, too!
A month ago, I was:
  • walking with a cane everywhere
  • feeling exhausted and fatigued
  • avoiding being in photos (sad but true)
Now, I am:
  • walking without the cane
  • feeling more energetic and focused
  • actually IN pics with my kids
I'm just getting started.

Chris B.

I was never good at sticking to a "diet" plan or working out regularly.  I'd be all gung-ho for about a month and sometimes as little as a week.  Then, I'd lose interest and motivation and I'd give up.  I had gained 40 pounds since having gastric bypass surgery in 2003.  I'm getting older, more out of shape and, I hate to say, arthritis is kicking in.

A little over a year ago a family member encouraged me to join BODi (Beachbody at that time).  Along with that I was invited to join a Facebook group, the No Judgement Journey.

It turns out, that was the combo I needed.  I get tons of workouts on BODi.  The variety keeps me interested and coming back for more.  The Portion Fix meal plan just works for me.  The BODi app is a must for me at keeping track of my workouts and my food intake.  It makes things much easier.  I think the best part of my success is my No Judgment Journey (NJJ) family.  I see everyone else's success. That helps me stay motivated and gives me the accountability I need.  Posting my goals, reaching those goals or posting the hiccups that inevitably happen at times.  It's great getting tips, tricks, recipes, suggestions and encouragement from the group.

Since joining BODi and NJJ in October 2022, I've successfully lost and kept off 40 pounds.  I feel healthier, stronger and have more energy than I've had in years.  Also, I am much more conscious of my food choices.  Getting away from all the prepackaged food, fast food and even the cooking oil I use has really made a difference.

I have to thank my coach and sister-in-law Shannon for that nudge in the right direction.  I'm staying with BODi/NJJ.  It works!
